The original work is dated 1925 and is kept at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. At that time, Wassily Kandinsky is teaching at Weimer's Bauhaus and his canvases seems to have a geometric structure. He plays with the colours, he studies the contrasts between them and their correspondence to the sounds of musical instruments, as well as geometric figures. In this composition, on the left you can see many sharp shapes and light colours, especially yellow and on the right curved shapes, dark colours, mostly blue. Red prevails in the central part of the painting where there are rectangular shapes mixed with curves. The main protagonist of the painting is definitely colour. The artist interprets the reality that surrounds him, even social, and painting becomes an emotional and mental experience. Wassily Kandinsky is a Russian abstract painter who develops a theory of colours based on the emotional responses that each colour arouses. In 1912 he publishes The Spiritual in Art, after helping to create the Blaue Reiter. In the book he describes the theories he experiments in his paintings, the relationships between colour and form, at the basis of abstractionism. In his book he links colours to sounds, emotions, scents and shapes. Kandinsky writes about this painting: "Yellow and blue in relation to red. The Sun and the Moon are avoiding each other, and they find themselves again as it happens between day and night, sunrise and sunset. The mysterious birth of red from the simultaneous tendency to departure and ascension of yellow and blue". The colour has freed itself from the drawing and therefore it can express the spirit alongside its chosen forms.
