After his voluntary stay at the asylum in Saint-Rémy in 1889, Van Gogh spends seventy days at Auvers. Here some moments of intensity of his disease alternates with others useful for his artistic production. The painter has stopped drinking and finds inspiration in the open air at Auvers. Through painting he tries to reach the serenity and inner peace that he has missed for most of his life. The subject of this representation, as the title suggests, are the farms of Auvers, surrounded by the bright green of the fields. The design is characterized by a strong chromatic mark and the underlining, through contour lines of the margins of the figures, leads to a strengthening of the expression, according to the artist's way of feeling. All the elements of the canvas are painted in dashes, a distinctive style of Van Gogh's painting, following the shape of the objects and enhancing the detection of their structure. Despite the artist tries countless times to find tranquillity and happiness in his life, trying to escape reality with his paintings, in 1890 he decides to end his torment and shoots a blow to his heart.
