This fresco is part of the decoration of the Sistine Chapel, near the Vatican Museums in Rome. The detail presented here depicts the hand of the Creator extending towards that of Adam without touching it, although both have the indexes prosthesis towards each other. On the right, the hand of God points the index with an energetic and powerful gesture as if to give an order, an impulse. On the left, the hand of Adam, at first without strength, is pervaded by an intense energy and is about to "wake up". The representation of hands, close, but not enough to touch, is charged with symbolic meaning: an invisible spark seems to light up between the two fingers; but despite God has a deep love for the human species and try to transmit its strength, there are unbridgeable differences and it will never be possible a real contact between them. Michelangelo wants to highlight clearly the contrast between man and the Divine: on the one hand Adam is insecure, devoid of strength, and hesitant, on the other God is perfect, wise and endowed with a strong security. God is therefore interpreted as a powerful source of dynamic energy, while the body of Adam is inert and receives life as an electrical discharge.
