Suprematist Composition

The original painting, a work by the Russian artist Kazimir Severinovic Malevich created in 1916, is auctioned by Sotheby's to an anonymous buyer for about 60 million dollars in 2008. This makes it the most expensive masterpiece of Russian art to date. In this work we can read the visual manifesto of the artist, who also writes a text on the philosophy of Suprematism. Malevich wants to create "a pure living art" in this work.

This makes it the most expensive masterpiece of Russian art to date. Previously it has been kept at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam for about 50 years and also exhibited in some European Museums on several occasions. In this work we can read the visual manifesto of the artist, who also writes a text on the philosophy of Suprematism. Malevich wants to create "a pure living art" in this work. In his opinion, the artist can be a creator only when the shapes on his painting has nothing in common with nature.
