The original work of Gustav Klimt dates back to 1904-1907. Four figures of women or mermaids or water snakes are stretched horizontally among seaweed and hair. The atmosphere that is perceived is intimate, sensual and lascivious. The details are many and very small, rendered by Klimt thanks to the mosaic technique. The bodies of these sea creatures do nothing but twirl, wave in flexuous curves like in a dream of love. By placing women in water as snakes, Klimt does not fear censorship despite the erotic context. Many of Klimt's works were taken from their legitimate owners during the Nazi regime and some were later returned to them. This work is now preserved in a private collection.
