He was born in Venice in 1791 where he began his artistic career as a restorer in his uncle's workshop. After moving to Rome, he made himself known and collected various artistic awards and academic recognitions.
A misadventure of love following his relationship with a married woman, led him to move to Milan. This was a period of profound transformation and immersion in patriotic ideals also following the meeting, among others, with Alessandro Manzoni, Tommaso Grossi and Ermes Visconti.
It was in these years that he created his most famous works, among which "The Kiss", painted in 3 versions, which is his most representative work, so much so that it can be considered his technical and symbolic manifesto.
